What we didn't know then: Failure of Biased Journalism in 2008 Election

Major media failed to report troubling facts
 in the 2008 presidential campaign

The facts behind America's slide from liberty to socialism were not reported in the old media, but they are documented  in a new book:.  Could this have been a game-changer in 2008?

Preserving Life and  Liberty

"The future of liberty depends on reclaiming America's first principles. 'If a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization,' as Thomas Jefferson warned, 'it expects what never was and never will be.'   Widespread ignorance of American history is but the most recognized symptom of the troubling decline in popular knowledge of fundamental principles. We face an education system that upholds mediocrity in the name of relativism; an ever-expanding and centralized government, unmoored from constitutional limits; judges openly making laws and shaping society based on pop-philosophy rather than serious jurisprudence; and growing confusion over America's legitimate role in the world, made all the more apparent by the fundamental threat posed by radical Islamists. At the root of all these problems is a pervasive doubt about the core principles that define America and ought to inform our politics and policy."

A Catholic View of Capitalism and US Economy

DENOUNCING CAPITALISM
NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HUMAN RIGHTS

“The economic downturn of 2008 unleashed a furious attack on free enterprise, one that has only gained momentum in 2009 with the ascension of Barack Obama to the Presidency.

" The moralizing against capitalism is both deserved and not.  On the one hand, the activities of the commercial class have never been morally pure in all respects.  There are crooks and criminals in all trading sectors, and this is a fact that should not surprise anyone who understands human nature.

“On the other hand, it is complete foolishness to believe we can do without a strong commercial sector.  It is commerce and entrepreneurship that brings society the blessings of prosperity:  food on the table, medicine for the sick, transportation, and extra income for charitable giving, education, and the funding for religious institutions.  If government could provide in this respect, totalitarian societies would have been the most prosperous instead of the poorest.

“It is extremely dangerous for any national leader to rail against commercial society, especially during an economic downturn.  If the US economy is to recover, it will be the work of enterprise, not members of Congress and bureaucracies.  Loose talk of expropriation frightens capital and stirs up reticence about the future security of profits.

"What’s more, the whole model of ‘stimulus' presumes a market that doesn’t work.  But the reality is that the market is working, even in a downturn, as a response to the excesses created by follies from the Federal Reserve and the government’s own lending institutions.

“There is always a moral problem to consider.  Denouncing ‘capitalism’ is another way of denouncing the freedom to invent, trade, contract, and grow wealth.  This is not a prescription for recovery, nor is it compatible with human rights.  Your support of our work has never been more important than it is in these times.”

How Much Can You be Forced to Pay for FREE Health Coverage?

(The cost estimates used here are for for persons with pre-existing  medical conditions.)

Slowly, details of the new 2,000+page government health insurance law
are being discovered.  .   Last week, a health insurance industry consultant was interviewed on national radio.  She estimated that for a person with pre-existing health  problems, it would cost them around $12,000 per year, about one thousand dollars per month, per person,  for health insurance under the new health care law.  The deductible would be around $2500 for each person for each year.   The monthly insurance premium is around $300 per person. And there are co-pays for each doctor or treatment visit.  She estimated that it would all add up to about $2500 a year for each person.  Having  insurance coverage is one thing, but receiving  health care  is another matter.  Many  people  don’t know what is going to happen to them – and how much power and control the federal employees and political appointees will have over their medical care decisions, and even over their lives.  Yes, there really are death panels—they had to admit their existence but they call them by another name.  Try the “duck test.”

The plan does not pay for anything before the deductible is paid out-of-pocket for the  year.  People will have no choice.  You will be by law, forced to enroll and  buy this national health insurance.  If you don’t, you will be fined heavily and the IRS will enforce the fine.  What does this say about freedom in America?

When congress and the administration forced  the health plan through,  against the will of the majority of Americans, they said you would be paying   an “insurance premium.”   Now that 18 states are  suing the  federal  government,  when the feds are arguing the case in court they call  it a tax.

Sadly, AARP allegedly cut  a profitable  insurance deal with the administration –behind closed doors--to get government insurance business.  In doing so, AARP betrayed millions of senior citizens, including their members. AARP representatives in their local town hall meetings would not listen to the voices of the senior citizen members.    Many tore up their AARP membership cards.

There is now a movement of seniors joining AMAC, the Association of Mature American Citizens.  AMAC is the alternative for the voice of those over 50.   My wife and I dropped AARP and are members of AMAC now.

I plan  to vote  in November  to elect representatives and senators  who will listen to us, -- to the American people -- and repeal this bad law.  Vote for leaders with conservative principles, who can unite on a plan to fix the existing health insurance problems.   In spite of all these  problems needing  to be fixed, America has the best  health  care  system in the world.

We, the people must  unite to stop  socialized  medicine promoters  from destroying health care as we know it.   If we don’t begin to stop this runaway train in November,  the resulting  medical  train wreck will be a tragic loss from which we and our children  may never recover.

There are good American voters  and good candidates out there.  We are paying attention.  Let’s encourage one another.   Let’s stay involved , stay informed, and be observant  regarding   how the votes are counted.   May it be a landslide victory for the American people and for the cause of Liberty.
